Recent Decision Regarding Non Solebury Township Residents

Since the end of 2017, the Solebury Township Supervisors have talked about the cost of the shared resources between New Hope Borough and Solebury Township. One of these resources is the field sports programs, which include soccer, baseball, softball, football, and lacrosse. Any further discussions between both parties have been either postponed or had not taken place, which caused the Township Supervisors to unexpectedly vote at the Tuesday February 6th meeting to enact a non-resident fee of $50 per player. While one of the Supervisors, Mark Baum Baicker, contacted our President, Frank Lawson, the Friday prior to the meeting, there was a belief that there would be further discussion between the sports programs and the Supervisors before the fee was voted on. Obviously, that did not happen, and we were blindsided that the Supervisors chose to impose this $50 fee per non-resident player without any further input by those sports groups and residents that it would impact directly. Frankly, we are disappointed with the direction our elected officials have taken.

Since this decision was unexpected and with the February SSC meeting postponed, the SSC board has not had a chance to fully discuss how these fees will impact our program. However, it is noted that the action taken by the Supervisors mandates that the Soccer Club pay the Township these fees (approximately $5,000 to $7,500) prior to taking the fields for our fall season. SSC is a community based club where we accept all players from not just from New Hope and Solebury but from our surrounding communities (well over 100 non-resident players) and we are thankful to all of our players, coaches and volunteers who work so diligently both on and off the field to make this program a success.

The non-resident fee does not impact any player currently enrolled in our 2017-18 travel season, this would begin with the registration for the 2018-19 season. SSC is in the process of evaluating the issue and are trying to determine how many players it impacts or how we would implement it. Please note the SSC board is currently working on this issue and will have more information available once we do.

In the meantime, we strongly suggest your attendance at the Solebury Supervisor's meeting on Tuesday February 20th at 7pm at the Township building to voice your comments regarding their decision.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any SSC Board Member. You can also contact the Township Supervisors and Borough Council directly to encourage them to work together to provide a solution that does not impact our Club and children.
